I initially upgraded from the original 4 GB SD card to a 16 GB 30mbps card early when I first got my DS 708 and before the update period ended  made  a  copy of the software and put onto a 16GB 40mbps card that I presently use on my DS 708 . I believe everything is the same software still on both cards and keeping the other 16GB software card as a backup.  I was wondering if I updated later and found missing functions on the newer software , if I could turn the DS 708  off , disconnect the power source and use the Older version SD cards with older software version cards in my DS 708 ?

 Good, it sounds like your DS 708 still worked with the older versions of software used in . Hope I don't need to use it
